Shwari , located in kiyawa L.G.A of Jigawa state might be a small village but it holds what many traders around the world may be looking for. Shuwari market is about three square kilometers and 10 minutes drive from Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State. The market is a trading ground for people from the surrounding area but unfortunately the market kicks alive on Monday of every week. According to some market participants the Marketplace news spoke to, traders living as far as kano come to the market and some of them start coming from Sunday and sleep in the market till Monday so that they will be able to get a good place to display their products before other traders within start coming. The market is an open ground with few open shops constricted with brick but 90% of market participants display their products on the open ground. However, the market is a beehive of activities from people living wide and far. Marketplace news team arrived the market at around 10am on Monday but met few traders with many other still trooping in with their loads following behind. Meanwhile, from 12pm to 1pm, the market kicks alive with people coming and going and bags of agricultural products like, millet, beans, Rice, groundnuts, pepper, Goat, chicken, caw, tomatoes, fruits etc that worth millions of Naira heaped here and there. The first trader Marketplace met sells groundnut and he brought 10 bags of that to the market. “In this market you can get around 5 trailers,” said the trader who later told us that he came from Takai, a village in Kano State. “April is not the time to buy and stock because it is a little bit expensive now but in two months it will be cheaper. “ according to the source, a bag of about 50kg will cost around N9,500-N10,000. The traders said people from other parts of the country come to buy from them and take to their state to sell. Other traders confirmed what he said but added that they hardly sell a trailer now in one market since people who comes to buy can not buy in large because they resell to the local people in bits. But since it is not something that perishes easily they do not worry much about selling it “it can still be dried and good to eat”, added another trader. “Things get cheaper during harvest which is around August,” said one trader. “For sure, by then you can get it cheap.” Another trader added that it is expensive now because people are selling the one they stored and expect to get good money out of it. From there the group went over to the selling ground of beans and price of around 10, 800Naira mentioned left members of the group shouting in surprise. “During harvest you can get it as low as about 4000-5000Naira but the beans you are seeing now are stored beans from that of last year’s harvest,” said one trader. “We bought them expensive from the store and have to sell it like this.” Marketplace news learnt that during harvest one can get around 10 trailers of beans in one market at a very good price and harvest time for beans here is around July-August. Shwari market has any Agricultural product anybody may like to buy either for production or storage. Ranging from beans, peppers, groundnuts, millet, wheat ,fruits, animals, name it, you will get it in shwari market. One good thing about shwari market is that , if you can not speak the Hausa language many traders can understand, do not worry, there are people in the market who can do the purchase for you at a very small amount of money and I am sure you will be certified because they will do the bargain for you and even arrange the car or trailer that will transport the products for you. Even if you did not get the quantity you want in one market, this people are professional, just give them your money and sit back, in few days you will get as many as you want.
